Dreamweaver - This software was created by Macromeida and has many uses. This program is very user friendly and allows you to create web pages, manage the files you create for the internet, and it also allows you to FTP your files up to the internet. This particular software has a built in browser which allows you to display your work as you create it. Once you have viewed the completed page, you can easily change it if you need to until you are satisfied.

Flash - Macromedia also created this program which is mostly used for animation and flash movies. Keep in mind that not all users on the internet have a flash player so you may want have a non flash site as well. This software works well with Dreamweaver and is for a more advanced developer.

Fireworks - Also created by Macromedia, Fireworks is mainly used to create graphics such as banners, animations, and even company logos. You may even take existing pictures or images and make changes to them using this software. The greatest advantage of this program is that is creates the code for your design and allows you to export it onto your website and still work properly. It too works well with Dreamweaver.

Fonts - As you know there are many different fonts to choose from. Not all computers have the same fonts so keep this in mind when you are designing a web page. If you choose a font that another computer may not have, that computer will automatically use the default font for that computer. This will alter the appearance of your web page.

Colors - Colors are a major part of web design. Avoid using neon or birght colors as they are sometimes very hard to read. You should also keep the same color scheme throughout your web page for consistancy. This always helps to keep your web page neat looking. Using too many colors may also be hard on the eyes. Keep it simple and use colors that compliment one another.

Images - Graphics are always nice to have on a web page. People can relate to things better when they can see what you are referring to. One thing to remember is that the more colors in your image, the longer it takes to open in the browser. Always put alt tags on your images for the visually impared and if you have more than one image on the same page, try to keep them the same size. This will keep your page in unity.

A Few DONT'S - The most important thing to remember when creating web pages is to save them as htm or html files. If you do not save them correctly, they will not work once they have been uploaded to the internet. Do not use special characters like &,*, or ! in the file name. Avoid using spaces in the file name as well. Instead, use the underscore key. Example: jcc_assignment3.html (this is the correct way to name a file). Do not use capital letters in the file name.

Background Color - Create CSS style sheets when possible to maintain the same background color for each web page you create. Stay away from bright colors as backgrounds as it is hard to read text on them. Again, you can always view your page before you upload it and make changes as needed.
